South Wind

from Brookland Voices by David A. Harley

/

about

A waltz tune that must have seeped into my subconscious over many years of playing guitar and bass in ceilidh bands. Also known as A Ghaoth Andeas, among other names. The tune and/or words are often credited to Domnhall Meirgeach Mac Con Mara (Freckled Donal MacNamara) [1715-1810], notably by Donal O'Sullivan in 'Songs of the Irish'. The tune has also been used for other songs, including Thomas Moore's 'I've a Secret to Tell Thee' and Ewan McVicar's modern song 'All The Tunes In The World' (thesession.org/tunes/601).
