Rea Brookland

from Brookland Voices by David A. Harley

/

about

The Rea Brook empties into the Severn close by the Abbey Church in Shrewsbury: the Rea Brook Valley is now a local nature reserve: this improvisation is named in recollection of a walk taken with my then quite small daughter on a visit to the town in the 90s. Locals usually pronounce Rea as 'Ree'. Mind you, now I've said that, one of the locals who believe that the only way to pronounce Shrewsbury is 'Shoosbree' will probably tell me different.
